Cupping in Buderim
- Traditional suction-cup technique
- Cups placed only on areas you agree to
- Possible skin marks explained upfront
Suction in Place of Pressure
Most massage presses into the body. Cupping works the other way. At Nancy's Traditional Thai Massage, we offer cupping in Buderim, placing cups on selected areas so the suction draws the skin gently upward.
It's a long-standing traditional technique, but we don't describe it as a detox or a cure, and we won't promise a particular result. What we will do is show you how the cups go on, explain the pulling sensation and agree on placement before we start.
Cupping can leave circular marks, and it isn't suitable for everyone. If you bruise easily, have a bleeding disorder or have fragile skin, talk to your GP before booking. For hands-only work, remedial massage is an alternative to consider. Call (07) 5456 4915 to enquire.
Cupping Explained in Four Points
Before trying cupping, it's helpful to understand how the technique works in practice.
- Negative pressure: Each cup creates suction against the skin. The sensation is a pull, quite different from the push of manual massage.
- Agreed placement: Cups go only where we've discussed with you. You can ask us to avoid any area.
- Marks afterwards: Round red or purple marks are common and may stay visible for a while. They show where suction was applied, not that anything has been removed or healed.
- Previous experience: If you've had cupping before, tell us what you did and didn't like. We'll take that into account when planning the session.

Deciding Whether Cupping Suits You
Because the technique can leave visible marks, timing is worth a thought. If you have an event coming up where marks on your back or shoulders would bother you, consider booking afterwards.
Health factors matter too. Easy bruising, skin conditions, varicose veins or a bleeding disorder can all affect suitability, and a doctor's advice should come first in those cases. If you're considering cupping because of ongoing pain, have that pain assessed separately; the colour or size of a mark isn't a diagnostic sign.
Once you're comfortable to go ahead, we'll explain where the cups will sit and roughly how long they'll stay on. You can ask for any cup to be removed at any time.
FAQs
The suction affects small blood vessels beneath the skin, which can leave temporary round marks or bruising. These marks don't indicate toxin removal or any health benefit.
Cupping lifts the skin using suction, while deep tissue massage presses into muscle with the hands. The sensations involved are quite different as a result.
People with a bleeding disorder, fragile skin, a tendency to bruise easily or another relevant condition should seek medical advice first. A doctor can help decide whether a suction-based treatment is appropriate.
